As a sickle cell survivor herself, she has founded an annual fundraiser to help support those who are affected by this disease. Just in case you didn't know, Sickle Cell Anemia is a group of inherited red blood cell disorders. When you have it the red blood cells become hard and sticky and look like a C-shaped farm tool called a “sickle”. The sickle cells die early, which causes a constant shortage and blockage of red blood cells. This can cause pain and other serious problems such as infection, acute chest syndrome, and stroke.
In some cases of this disease, doctors expect the life expectancy of the paitnet to decrease significantly. Chriss was one of those cases. She was told that she wouldn't live past 15, she is 30 now. She was told that she wouldn't be able to have children, she has a beautiful 13-year-old son.
Chriss is supposed to be here. Her soul is a fighter and she is using her voice to raise funds for other people (predominately of color) who share her story. She will be submitting all funds raised to Kids Conquering Sickle Cell Disease Foundation by the end of the month. You can find out more about them by clicking here.
